Oracle EPM 11.1.1.3 - Registering Essbase with Shared Services

So, you have made a fresh installation of Oracle EPM 11.1.1.3, registered all components with Shared Services using EPM System Configurator, and are wondering why you still can't see your Essbase server in Shared Services and why the users you create in Shared Services don't show up in Hyperion applications.

There is a good chance that you are also getting errors, such as "Failed to connect to the user directory Native Directory" and "Skipping provider Native Directory - Communication Error" in your SharedServices_Security_Client.log file.

Why is this not working?  Why has Essbase user externalization to Shared Services gone south?  Well, because you still have a few more steps to complete.

To externalize security of your Essbase server to Shared Services, do the following:

  1. Open Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console.
  2. Expand the "Administration Servers" item.
  3. Right-click on the administration server in the list.
  4. Select "Externalize users..." option.
  5. Complete the wizard keeping default options.
  6. Expand the "Essbase Servers" item.
  7. Expand the essbase server in the list.
  8. Right-click on Security item in the list.
  9. Select "Externalize users" option.

This should fix your user-externalization problem.  Please let me know if you have any questions on this issue and whether this solution works for you.

Cheers.
